Dont hold your breath, delayed from last night (found out yesterday) and moved to a day that I am out of town. I am looking for a refund and another place to take a camera class. This really did not work out the way I had planned....wind totally blown from my sails............

A class can be helpful for specifics but really the best way to learn is to just take boatloads of pictures. You don't have to wait! Take pictures of the same thing on a bunch of different settings. There are some websites with good tutorials about the basics of shutter speed and aperture and ISO settings. The class I took (at a local community college and taught by a professional photographer) the teacher actually recommended NOT using the totally manual setting for most family/spontaneous pictures. He recommended using some of the in between settings that allow you to adjust portions but the camera gives you a basic starting point for the aperture and shutter speed.
I think the classes are most helpful if they are classes in editing - I could really use a photoshop type class. You can do a lot post shooting that I don't do at all. I just take a ton of shots and every now and then get a decent one.

I use the "auto setting".....
